In this article we will learn how to make jeera rica at home. Jeera Rice or Cumin seed Rice is a very easy and popular North Indian dish. This rice can be served on its own or can be served with almost everything, especially vegetable curries. It goes well with dal tadka.

I have made many rice recipes like such as matar paneer pulaocurd rice, gatte ka pulao, veg pulao etc.

Any size of rice grains can be used to make jeera rice but the long grained rice looks more attractive and flavoured. This rice recipe is an easy and does not take long time to prepare.Make sure the cumin seeds get splutter before adding the cooked rice because cumin seeds gives excellent aroma and nice flavor to the dish.

Jeera rice can be made in pressure cooker also but we have not used pressure cooker in this jeera rice recipe.

In this jeera rice recipe, i used homemade ghee which gives nice flavor to the dish.

Fried Jeera Rice Recipe

Ingredients

  • 100 gm Basmati Rice or medium to long grained rice
  • 2 pcs bay leaf
  • 3-4 pcs cloves
  • 1 tbsp Ghee
  • 2 pcs black cardamom Big
  • 2 pcs Cinnamon stick
  • 1 ½ tsp Cumin seeds

Instructions

  • Wash and soak rice for 15-20 mins.
  • Boil water in a pan. Put the rice in boiling water and cook uncovered on low heat until the rice becomes firm but tender. Do not overcook the rice otherwise the rice grains will get break and mushy. Each grain of rice should be separate.
  • When rice is done sieve it and make it cool completely. Do not add hot rice otherwise the rice grains will get break and mushy.
  • Heat Ghee in a pan.
  • When ghee becomes slightly hot add all the spices and sauté till cumin seed becomes light brown in colour.
  • Add cooked rice, salt to taste and mix it well.
  • Jeera rice is ready to serve.

How to make Fried Jeera Rice:

  • Being by washing and soaking rice for 15-20 mins.

  • When rice is done sieve it and make it cool completely. Do not add hot rice otherwise the rice grains will get break and mushy.
  • Heat Ghee in a pan.

  • When ghee becomes slightly hot add all the spices and sauté till cumin seed becomes light brown in colour.

  • Add cooked rice, salt to taste and mix it well.

  • Jeera rice is ready to serve.

Note:

  • You can make it by frying the whole spices first and cook rice along with the spices.
