Baraf ka gola recipe with step by step photos and instructions- I am sure all of you are well aware of ‘Baraf ka Gola’, a popular Ice Popsicle, also known to be ‘Chuski’, among the locals. Made of crushed ice in the shape of a ball, dipped in flavoured syrups, it is considered the best way to beat the heat during summer months. Quick and easy to make, this frozen delight is so tempting that it takes only a few minutes to bring out the child in everyone.

I tried it in Mumbai for the first time and it was then that I fell in love with this juicy ‘Churmura’ as they call it in that city. It really belongs to this metropolitan area but when you search for it elsewhere, you will find the hawkers moving around with colourful ‘thelas’, selling red, yellow, green and orange ice popsicles, with ‘Bombay ka Ice Gola’ written on their carts.

Even you will agree if I say that this mouth-watering variety or rather the recipe of colours is best enjoyed in Holi, the festival of colours. If you ever throw a party for your kids or have already planned one, don’t forget to include this frozen delight in the menu. The best thing about this recipe is that you can customise it the way you want. My favourite flavour combinations are RoseBlue lagoon and KhusKalakhatta. I usually soak the ice Popsicles in them after adding lemon juice and sprinkling chaat masala/Jal-jeera over it. However, you can also plunge it in all the syrups at once or try out three of them together.

Whoever came up with this fusion of tangy flavours and icy syrups really deserves appreciation from us. The next time summer barges in, slurping the icy cool ‘gola’ instead of taking a splash at a nearby pool can be a great idea altogether. However, keep in mind that when getting it ready, you have to be super quick otherwise the ice will melt down.

Ingredients

Ingredients:

  • 20 ice cubes
  • 4 tablespoon Rose Syrup or as required
  • 4 tablespoon Khus Syrup or as required
  • 4 tablespoon Kalakhatta syrup or as required
  • 4 tablespoon Blue lagoon syrup or as required
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice
  • Jaljeera / Chaat masala for sprinkling
  • Icecream sticks as required
  • Disposable glass

Instructions

How to make:

  • Take ice cubes and pour it in a jar and crush the ice. After crushing it will look just like snow. Don’t wait you have to be super quick while making this as ice melts down easily.
  • Take a small glass or you can also take disposable glass and pour the crushed ice into the glass and press it gently.
  • After filling 3/4 glass, pop the icecream stick in the centre of the crushed ice and the once again put crushed ice into the glass and press it gently so that icecream stick gets set.
  • Take out the ice Popsicle from the glass and pour some lemon juice and sprinkle some chaat masala/ jaljeera.
  • At last pour the syurup all around the Popsicle. You can add any flavor of syrup of your choice. I have used two flavours Rose and blue lagoon at one ice Popsicle and kalakhatta and khus syrup to make another ice Popsicle. You can add one, two or many flavours to make an ice Popsicle.
  • Sip the Gola quickly before it melts.

Step by step with pictures

  • Take ice cubes and pour it in a jar and crush the ice. After crushing it will look just like snow. Don’t wait you have to be super quick while making this as ice melts down easily.

  • Take a small glass or you can also take disposable glass and pour the crushed ice into the glass and press it gently.
