Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • ¼ tsp Baking soda
  • ½ tsp Baking powder
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • ¾ cup yogurt Curd
  • All purpose flour for rolling

For garnishing:

  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 1 tbsp coriander leaves Finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp garlic Finely chopped

Instructions

For garnishing:

  • Put butter in a bowl and mix finely chopped coriander leaves and finely chopped garlic. Mix it well and keep aside

How to make Garlic Nan on tawa:

  • Combine all the dry ingredients -flour, salt, sugar, baking soda, baking powder in a deep bowl.
  • Make a well and add yogurt, mix it well to make very soft dough. Dough should not be very sticky so if you need add dry flour accordingly to make non sticky dough. Knead the dough well.
  • Apply little oil to the dough and cover it with wet cloth. Leave the dough sit for an hour.
  • After an hour remove the cloth and knead the dough again.
  • Take one part of the dough and roll it in your palms like ball.
  • Dust the rolling surface with dry flour and dust the balls with the dry flour. Do not roll the balls very thick or thin and it should not be larger than your tawa size.
  • Roll the balls into oval shape using roller. You can roll into any shape of your choice but I prefer to roll in oval shape to make it just like served in restaurants.
  • Apply water on one side of the naan uniformly so that it gets stick on tawa.
  • Heat the tawa on medium heat and once the tawa gets medium hot place the water side down on tawa and press it lightly so that the naan stick on to the tawa and when we flip the tawa upside down it will not fall down. That is the reason we will not take non-stick pan to make naan.
  • Once the naan starts bubbling and changes its colour from upper surface (It will take around 1 minute), remove the tawa from heat and put the griddle on flame to avoid the direct contact of naan from the stove. Keep the flame on medium and flip the tawa upside down on griddle and cook the top for few seconds till you see the golden brown spots on naan.
  • Remove the naan from tawa and garnish it with butter. Apply butter mix over the naan.
  • Serve garlic naan hot with your favourite curry.

How to make naan in Pressure cooker:

  • Take a pressure cooker and grease it very lightly with the oil so that after making naan it will come out easily.
  • Remove the lid and put the pressure cooker upside down and heat on medium flame.
  • Roll the naan in the same way like tawa naan.
  • Once the pressure cooker becomes hot take each naan and apply water on one side of the naan and place the water side around the inside of the pressure cooker. You can put 2-3 naan at a time inside the wall of pressure cooker.
  • Keep the pressure cooker upside down and cook on medium flame till golden brown spots appear.
  • Remove the naan from pressure cooker and apply butter mix over the naan.
  • Serve hot with any Indian curry.

Notes

To make naan on tawa use Iron tawa or skillet, non-stick tawa will not work.
You can skip addition of garlic if you do not like garlic flavour.
You can also cook naan on directly flame without using griddle. Just hold the tawa upside down about 2 inch away from the flame.
