How To Make Chana Dal Recipe (Turai) – Ridge Gourd

The combination of Turai and chana dal is a delicious Indian recipe. If you do not have sufficient ridge gourd to make sabji then add chana dal in it. People who don’t like turai can cook turai by adding chana dal.

Chana Dal Recipe (Turai) - Ridge Gourd

The combination of Turai and chana dal is a delicious Indian recipe. If you do not have sufficient ridge gourd to make sabji then add chana dal in it.

Ingredients

  • 250 gm chana dal washed and soaked for an hour
  • 2 medium sized Ridge Gourd Turai
  • ½ tsp Red chilly powder
  • ½ tsp Turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Coriander leaves
  • ½ tsp Garam masala
  • 2 piece Dry red chilli broken into two
  • 1 tsp Kasturi Methi
  • ½ tsp Cumin seed jeera
  • 2 tsp Ghee Oil

Instructions

  • Peel ridge gourd and slit into lengthwise.
  • Chop ridge gourd into 1-inch sized chunks.
  • Add Chana dal, chopped turai, turmeric powder and 1 1/2 cup of water in a Pressure cooker.
  • As turai chana dal is a medium dry recipe and turai also release water while cooking so add water accordingly.turai chana dal
  • Cover the pressure cooker and wait for 2 whistles.
  • Boil chana dal till it is soft but not mushy.
  • When all the steam gets released opens the lid and keeps aside.Turai chana
  • Heat 2 tsp of ghee in a pan.
  • When ghee becomes hot add cumin seeds and leave to crackle.
  • Add broken red chilly and sauté for a min.Turai chana
  • Add ¼ tsp of red chilly powder and soon after add boiled turai chana dal.
  • Add salt, (I have not added salt while boiling because it will make turai chana dal mushy which will not give the perfect taste to the dish) kasturi methi, remaining red chilly powder, asafoetida, garam masala.Turai chana
  • Mix well and cook for a min.Turai chana
  • Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
  • Serve hot with chapattis, puris or Jeera rice.

How To Make Turai chana dal:
