How To Make Moong Dal Ka Halwa Dessert Recipe

Moong dal halwa is a rich creamy Indian Dessert which is made of split soaked yellow moong dal. This halwa is relished by everybody especially it is the delicacy of Rajasthan. It is usually made in festive occasions like Holi, Diwali, weddings etc.

I have also made few more moong dal recipes such as, Moong Dal ki Tikki, Sabut Moong Dal Ka Paratha, Bread moong Dal Uttapam, etc.We need energy and lots of patience to make this halwa because it takes lot of time and effort.

How To Make Moong Dal Ka Halwa

Moong dal halwa is a rich creamy Indian Dessert which is made of split soaked yellow moong dal. This halwa is relished by everybody especially it is the delicacy of Rajasthan.

Ingredients

  • 200 gm moong dal wash and soaked split yellow
  • 200 gm khoya
  • 200 gm sugar
  • 200 gm Ghee Recipe of homemade Ghee
  • 1 ½ cup milk
  • Cardamom 4pc husked and powdered
  • saffron Few strands
  • 10 pcs Almonds cut into slivers
  • ½ tsp Wheat flour optional
  • Pinch Food color

Instructions

  • Soak the Moong dal in enough water for 3-4 hrs.
  • Drain and Grind the moong dal to a smooth paste by using very little water.
  • Heat ghee in a non stick pan. Add wheat flour and mix well (if you are making halwa in iron kadai, add little wheat flour to avoid stickness). Add grounded moong dal on lower heat and mix well.
  • Stir the mixture on low to medium flame. Keep on stirring the halwa until it starts breaking down and getting separated with fat.
  • In the pic below it just resembles sooji halwa.
  • When the halwa get separated from fat and change its color and gives nice aroma adds khoya. Mix well for 5 mins. The liquid should get absorbed and once again you will see the ghee getting separated.
  • Add sugar, milk and mix till the sugar gets dissolve.
  • Add cardamom powder, some almond slivers, saffron, colour and mix it well.
  • Now the halwa is ready. It took total of about 45 mins to 1hr to make the halwa.
  • Garnish with remaining almonds slivers and serve.

Notes

Notes: Moong dal ka halwa can be stored for several weeks in refrigerator. Just add litte milk to reheat before serving.
