Rose Sandesh Recipe | Bengali Sandesh Recipe

This rose sandesh recipe is a popular Bengali dessert. When it comes to confectionery, how can one forget about Sandesh from Girish Chandra Nakul Chandra, an all-time favourite Indian dessert, especially among the Bengal’s!

High in protein, made from soft ‘chena’ (paneer) and having a delightful flavor, you can consume it as a dessert or a snack and even by itself. I have many friends in Kolkata, whose meals end only with a Sandesh, the ones that have a rose essence.

My daughter has a fascination for the colour pink, and I think it is a favourite amongst every other girl as well. So here I am, dedicating this recipe to my daughter and to all those little ones who are fond of pink shades and rose flavours. The fact that this no-cook recipe has a melt-in-the-mouth texture and a fabulous aroma makes it even more special. It is worth the modest effort with the rose essence engulfing it.

Festivities are common in India, throughout the year, and I feel food is an integral part of it. Without the customary sharing of sweets and savouries, celebrations lose their charm. This is exactly why I thought of sharing the recipe of Rose Sandesh, a favourite dessert amongst all my readers.

For all those who hold the conviction that Rose Days are all about chocolates and pastries, make way for Rose Sandesh, an equally delightful treat, which can quickly turn into the flavour of the week. I bet no one will deny this conventional sweet engulfed with a wonderful ethnic flavour.

If it’s a special occasion and you are pressed for time, this Rose Sandesh can be a saviour as well! It hardly takes 10 minutes to cook and another 10 minutes to prepare. While some cut short the process by purchasing paneer from their nearby stores, I would highly recommend homemade chena for a divine taste.

Now coming to the last minute suggestions, use a non-stick pan, cook on low flame and keep stirring it to prevent the paneer from getting hard on account of overcooking. Another thing would be to blend it well in a jar for a soft texture, ready to melt in the mouth. Once done, garnish it with some rose petals before serving it on a platter. I’m sure each of the bites will remind you of the fresh chena/ paneer and the perfect balance of rose essence that you have blended well into it.

Ingredients:

How to make:

  1. Put soft paneer/ chena in a deep bowl and add 3-4 tbsp of sugar. Mash it with hands until the chena/ paneer becomes smooth.
  2. Put the mixture in a non-stick pan and cook it on low flame till all the moisture gets evaporated. Keep on stirring continuously so that it does not get burn. Do not cook it on high flame as paneer/ chena mixture will become hard.
