Masala Pav Recipe | How To Make Mumbai street style Masala Pav recipe with step by step photo. Masala pav is a left-over version of pav bhaji. Masala pav and Pav bhaji are the most popular Marathi fast food from the street food palette. If I have to talk about Masala Pav, I would say that it is the second best thing which occurred to humanity, the first being Pav! Yes, I am speaking about the fast food, famous among the Mumbai dwellers.

Originally, this Indian food item was introduced by the Portuguese, who called it by the name ‘pao’. However, the Indian theories reveal that it is actually called ‘pav’ because the dough here is kneaded with feet. Let us not waste our time talking only about its name as nothing lies in it. It is all about relishing the dish at odd hours as deciphered by Shakespeare. Masala pav by Ruchi Bharani is my favourite one

Who knew Pav, as in the humble form of bread, can actually inspire the Indians to prepare Masala Pav! Whoever savours this extraordinary snack falls in love with its texture. Not many are even aware of this totally new variant, which is sometimes like a pav bhaji and at other times like a salsa version of India. This awesome delicacy is a meal in itself. Here two fluffy yet buttery pavs are served with a spicy veggie mixture. It is tasty yet healthy given the assortment of freshly diced veggies- capsicum, onion, tomatoes, cabbage and carrots. These are then sautéed with flavoursome spices to create the extremely delicious stuffing. The addition of pav bhaji masala to it works wonders and augments its taste perfectly!

Now tasting the perfect Masala Pav does not mean visiting Mumbai because I have penned down the amazing recipe all by myself. Trying it once might just actually make you forget all about pav bhaji and push you more towards Masala Pav.

By looking at my recipe you will realize how different my dish is from the authentic ones. To me, it will be my signature dish if ever I open a restaurant in future. It is my dream you might say… 😀

Now the most interesting question- whom to serve? To it, I would answer- everyone, be it your guests, your children or your friends. It is absolutely healthy given the mushy veggie mixture and kids can try it, without a second thought on it. It is true that nothing can beat the taste of street foods but after trying this recipe, you will forget all about it. Moreover, nothing is as good as homemade Masala Pav, which you can totally trust on nutrient quotient.

Finally, before serving it hot, always garnish it with freshly chopped coriander leaves or grated paneer or both. Voila! Your dish is ready.
