Rose Falooda Milkshake

Today I am sharing the recipe of Rose Falooda Milkshake With Vanilla Ice-Cream, that is a popular Indian milkshake recipe. I am personally not much fond of rose flavor drinks, but due to a large number of requests from my readers, I am inclined to try it myself and show you how to make Rose Falooda Milkshake at home.

Falooda is an ancient summer drink, hailing from a Persian origin that was popularized in India by the Mughals. This frothy drink is typically prepared with “rose syrup” made of sugar syrup boiled with lots of rose petals, forming a crimson, ruby red colour. We Indians are more familiar with the packaged rose syrup “Rooh Afza” though. Pomegranate, strawberry and other fruits are also added to it. This is not only refreshing, but also a healthy fruity drink.

The addition of rice noodles and sabja seeds (sweet basil) is to give this a gel like consistency that is much coveted in the Middle Eastern regions. Even though this is primarily denoted as a Milkshake recipe, the ancients considered this as the closest to an ice-cream, or kulfi. So that you know today adding ice-cream in falooda milkshake is typical.

Many people including my children are not much fond of the subja seeds, mainly because of its dotted appearance. But when I serve it with the ice cream, the seeds get submerged, and all that remains is their incredible heath properties and a sweet flavor, which makes this a highly nutritional comfort drink. Subja or basil seeds are so diversely rich in nutrients, including Omega 3 fatty acids, many essential anti oxidants, and properties that improve the functionality of digestive system and liver. Mixing this with the high calorie milk shake, sort of balances it with its rich content of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) that helps burn calories.

If you like, you may churn the whole thing, and make a dense smoothie like milkshake. However, speaking of authentic rose falooda milkshake, the chewy rice noodles, are a part of it, and add to the consistency.

This drink might be ideal to have at brunch, or served as a luxurious drink, Middle East style. Pour it in a tall glass, and serve with a spoon, with some sweet fruits on the side. If you add any chopped fruit into the drink, make it really fine chopped for a comfortable serving, from inside the glass.
