How To Make Indian Besan Curry With Chilla

Besan chilla curry is usually a traditional recipe created in our home. When I do not have vegetables then I like to make this curry, it is besan flour curry of  gram dal.In our lunch or dinner, a gram flour curry is served, it can be served with rice or chapati (roti).

Indian Curry with Chilla

Besan chilla curry is usually a traditional recipe created in our home. When I do not have vegetables then I like to make this curry, it is besan flour curry of gram dal.

Ingredients

Ingredients:

    For Kadhi:

    • 2 cups Yogurt Dahi
    • 2 cups Water
    • 2 tbsp Gram Flour Besan
    • Coriander leaves (chopped)
    • 1/2 tsp Cuminseeds
    • 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
    • Salt as per taste
    • 2 pieces Green chilly chopped

    For Tempering:

    • 1 tbsp Oil/Ghee
    • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
    • 2 spring leaves Curry Patta
    • Pinch hing
    • ½ tsp red chily powder

    For besan ka chilla

    • 1 cup gram Flour Besan
    • 1/4 tsp Red chily powder
    • Salt to taste
    • ¼ tsp cumin seed
    • ¼ tsp carom seed ajwain
    • 1 ½ tsp coriander leaves
    • 2 piece Green Chilly chopped
    • ½ cup water as needed to make batter
    • Oil for cooking

    Instructions

    How to make Besan ka chilla:

    • Take a large bowl and mix all the ingredients ( besan ,jeera ,ajwain, coriander leaves ,salt, red chily powder and green chily).
    • Gradually pour little water into it so that there should be no lumps.
    • Add water till it comes to a thick and smooth batter in pouring consistency.
    • Heat a non- stick pan on a high flame when it becomes hot reduces the flame on medium.
    • Spread little oil on a pan and pour a spoonful batter evenly in a clock wise.
    • Drizzle little oil around it and cook till it becomes brown and crisp.
    • Put little oil on the top and turn it upside down and cook the other side till it turns brown in colour.
    • Repeat the same process with the remaing batter and make 4-5 chilla for Kadhi.

    Preparation for Kadhi:

    • In a big bowl, take the curd. Whip it well to make it smooth.
    • Add besan and all the spice powders under “for kadhi” and mix with the curd.
    • Use a wooden spatula or blender to dissolve the lumps into the curd.
    • Now, take a deep and thick bottomed pan and add first 4 items under "For Tempering of Kadhi".
    • Once the seeds start spluttering, add the remaining ingredients (curry leaves, hing, and red chily powder).
    • Now pour our dahi/curd besan mixture and stir continuously till the mixture starts boiling. Keep on stirring otherwise the yogurt will curdle.
    • Once the kadhi starts boiling and you smell a nice aroma, simmer the gas for 4-5 minutes so that it gets cooked well.
    • Cut chilla into small pieces and add the pieces to the hot kadhi.
    • Serve hot with rice or jeera rice, rotis or parathas
